Steps

1
Done

For the Teriyaki Tofu:

2
Done

In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce or tamari, maple syrup or agave nectar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and rice vinegar to make the teriyaki marinade.

3
Done

Place the tofu slices in a shallow dish and pour the teriyaki marinade over them. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 30 minutes, turning the slices occasionally.

4
Done

In a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, add the marinated tofu slices. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and caramelized.

5
Done

While cooking, brush the tofu slices with the teriyaki marinade. When the tofu is almost done, pour the cornstarch mixture over it and cook for an additional minute until the sauce thickens.

6
Done

For Assembling the Burger:

7
Done

Toast the gluten-free burger buns if desired.

8
Done

On the bottom bun, place a lettuce leaf followed by a teriyaki tofu slice.

9
Done

Add a slice of vegan cheese (if using), followed by shredded cabbage, julienned carrots, and cucumber slices.

10
Done

Drizzle extra teriyaki sauce on top if desired, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

11
Done

Top with the other half of the bun.
