Instructions:
1. In a medium pot over medium heat, add the lentils along with 2 cups water. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer until tender but not falling apart, about 30 minutes.
2. While the lentils cook, saute the onions in a pan with olive oil until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the remaining seasonings and stir well.
3. Remove the lentils from the pot and transfer them into a large mixing bowl. Add the sauteed onions and seasonings and mix together thoroughly.
4. Taste the sauce for seasoning adjustments before serving.
