Description: This vegan dessert takes inspiration from West Africa’s rich culinary heritage while staying true to its 149 roots. With a creamy base made from dates and nuts, topped with a crunchy oat and coconut crumble, you can indulge guilt-free!

For the Base:

1/4 cup almond butter or peanut butter
1 1/2 cups rolled oats (about 200 grams)
1/2 cup chia seeds (about 70 grams), plus more for garnish

Instructions:
1. Prepare the base: In a food processor, combine the first six ingredients for the base until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
2. Prepare the topping: Mix all the ingredients for the topping together in a small bowl until well combined. Set aside.
3. Assemble the dessert: Pour the prepared base into a rectangular baking dish or pie plate. Spread evenly using a spoon or off-set spatula. Sprinkle the topping mixture over the top of the base.
4. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 15 minutes, or until the topping starts to turn golden brown.
5. Serve: Allow the African Berry Crumble to cool completely before serving. Top each slice with your choice of optional garnish, if desired. Enjoy!
Note: If you prefer a thicker consistency for the base, simply increase the amount of dates used.
