Directions
Serve your Vegan French Apple Tarte Tatin warm, optionally with a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream or a dollop of vegan whipped cream for an extra treat.
Be cautious when handling the hot caramelized sugar, as it can cause burns. Always use oven mitts when inverting the tart.
Steps
1
Done
|
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). |
2
Done
|
In a food processor, combine the flour and a pinch of salt. Add the cubed vegan butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. |
3
Done
|
Slowly add ice-cold water and pulse until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. |
4
Done
|
While the dough is chilling, prepare the filling. In a 10-inch ovenproof skillet, melt the vegan butter over medium heat. Add the sugar and let it melt and caramelize until it turns a deep amber color, about 5-7 minutes. |
5
Done
|
Remove the skillet from heat and carefully arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern over the caramelized sugar. Sprinkle the lemon zest, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract over the apples. |
6
Done
|
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit the skillet's size. Carefully place the dough over the apples and tuck in the edges around the apples. |
7
Done
|
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. |
8
Done
|
Remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Place a serving plate on top of the skillet and, using oven mitts, carefully invert the tart onto the plate. |
