Serve the Chinese-inspired scallion pancakes hot and crispy. They are delicious on their own or with a dipping sauce made from soy sauce and a dash of rice vinegar.
Feel free to customize your scallion pancakes by adding other ingredients like mushrooms, garlic, or sesame seeds for extra flavor.
Steps
1
Done
|
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, ground white pepper, and Chinese five-spice powder (if using). Gradually add warm water while stirring until a dough forms. |
2
Done
|
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Form the dough into a ball, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 30 minutes. |
3
Done
|
After resting, divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball. |
4
Done
|
Roll out one dough ball into a thin, large circle on a floured surface. Brush the surface with a thin layer of vegetable oil, then sprinkle a generous amount of chopped scallions evenly over the dough. |
5
Done
|
Roll up the dough like a cigar, creating a long, thin log. Coil the log into a spiral shape, tucking the end underneath. Press the spiral flat into a pancake shape. |
6
Done
|
Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls. |
7
Done
|
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little vegetable oil. Once hot, place one pancake in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. |
8
Done
|
Remove the pancake from the skillet and place it on paper towels to remove excess oil. |
9
Done
|
Repeat the cooking process for the remaining pancakes, adding more oil to the skillet as needed. |
