Tofu is a versatile and nutritious food made from soybeans, which can be stored in the refrigerator for several weeks without spoiling. The shelf life of tofu depends on various factors such as its type, packaging, and storage conditions. Here’s an overview of how long different types of tofu typically last in the fridge:

1. Firm Tofu: Firm tofu has the longest shelf life among all types of tofu. It can last up to one week beyond its expiration date when stored properly in the refrigerator. To extend its shelf life, you can wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container before storing it.

2. Silken Tofu: Silken tofu has a shorter shelf life compared to firm tofu. It usually lasts around 7-10 days past its expiration date if stored correctly in the fridge. Since silken tofu has a higher moisture content, it should always be stored in its original package or a sealed container to prevent drying out.

3. Soft/Regular Tofu: Soft or regular tofu falls somewhere between firm and silken tofu in terms of texture and shelf life. It generally lasts about 5-7 days after its expiration date when stored in the fridge. However, like silken tofu, it may not last as long if left uncovered.

It’s important to note that these are general guidelines and your experience with tofu may vary depending on factors such as the brand, storage temperature, and the presence of any contaminants. Always check the appearance and smell of the tofu before consuming it to ensure it’s safe to eat. If you notice any changes in color, texture, or odor, discard the tofu immediately.
